چکیده
A one-pot Yb(III)-mediated cascade reaction has been developed leading to small molecules based on a novel structural motif, i.e. quinazolin-4-one moiety fused with an isoquinoline ring, for potential inhibition of TNF-α.

Copper(II) acetate/acetic acid/O2 and potassium iodide/tert-butylhydroperoxide systems are shown to affect the selective oxidation of ring-fused aminals to dihydroquinazolines and quinazolinones, respectively. These methods enable the facile preparation of a number of quinazoline alkaloid natural products and their analogues.

The asymmetric direct aldol condensation of aldehydes with ethyl- and propylketones is catalyzed by syn-alpha-aminoalcohol-Yb(OTf)3 complexes, yielding the anti-1,3-diol monoesters with high diastereocontrol and good enantioselectivity. Three adjacent stereogenic centers are created in a simultaneous aldol condensation and Evans-Tishchenko reduction in an acyclic system.
